SWORD VALUES
With the advent of the net and especially Ebay sword prices have marched to an all time high with new collectors entering weekly. Prices are increasing at an alarming rate with even junk bringing "good money". The scarce makers and early dates are bringing huge premiums as is the ever so important condition. Since swords carry no restrictions the net is an ideal place to buy and sell them. Certainly this is why they have increased steadily since 1996. Below is a general list of pricing, but use it only as a rule of thumb as swords will be found above & below these prices. The beginner is always cautioned to hook up with a seller he can trust both to buy from, for advise on rare makers, and to steer him clear of the many fakes that proliferate the industry. This field has many nuances where one minute detail can double the value of a particular piece as well as diminish the demand. For example a missing scabbard can drop the value of a sword between 50 to 75% and a sharpened blade can take 25 to 50% off. So be careful and good luck in assembling your collection.

Any sword made by Sauerbier will bring a substantial premium!

Remember, the value of a sword is primarily determined by scarcity and condition but there are exceptions. Ames is one. Their products are highly sought after in spite of their tremendous production record.
